I was browsing thru the 99 Cent Store last week and stumbled across a sugar skull mask in their seasonal Halloween section. It immediately reminded me of a Deatheater mask from Harry Potter. I’ve always wanted to own a wearable replica, but never purchased one because they are so expensive. So I bought the sugar skull mask for $1.99 with the intent of transforming it into a Deatheater mask for a Halloween costume.
I painted it with 3 coats of silver spray paint (leftover from a prior project). At this point, it resembled a Jabawokeez mask.
Then using reference photos from the Internet of Bellatrix Lestrange’s mask, I penciled in the scrollwork to reproduce the design. Once I was satisfied with my drawings, I traced over the pencil with a black Sharpie marker.
I’m so happy with how it turned out! And for just $1.99 plus tax + leftover spray paint + a few hours of fun crafting on a weekend, I got my very own Deatheater mask. I just love dollar store crafts!
BONUS: After I’m done wearing it for Halloween, I can hang it on a plaque and display it with the rest of my growing Wizarding World collection, including my DIY Sorting Hat.
